About Counselling
People from all walks of life come to counselling for different reasons – anxiety, depression or stress following a difficult life event such as a bereavement or relationship breakdown which has left them feeling overwhelmed and struggling to cope with their emotions. Others may come in with more general feelings such as a lack of motivation or simply a sense of feeling ‘stuck’ in their life.
Counselling offers a safe, confidential place in which to explore and make sense of difficult feelings with someone who is experienced in dealing with emotional issues. Sharing what you’re going through with a therapist can help clarify things, open up fresh perspectives and support you in rediscovering meaning in life and finding more effective ways to cope. It is not about giving advice, nor is it a ‘cosy chat’ with a friend. It is more about working collaboratively with a therapist who has been specially trained to support and work with you in a thoughtful, non-judgmental way which will help you understand yourself better so that you can find your own solutions to life’s inevitable ups and down.
Appointments
Sessions are 50 minutes and usually take place at the same time and on the same day each week (although I can sometimes be flexible if this is difficult for you). Following an initial meeting to see whether the kind of therapy I offer will work for you, I usually work with clients for a minimum of six weeks so we can get a proper sense of exactly where you are and what you need, after which we can review the situation and draw up a more formal arrangement.
Sessions are £50 for 50 minutes, payable on the day or in advance, either by cash, cheque or BACS. There is no charge for sessions cancelled with a minimum of three days’ notice, otherwise the full fee applies.
